Brake Repair

Category

There are not many components on your car that are as effective at keeping you safe as your brake system. When your brake system is not working, it could cause your car to stop at a much greater distance. Even five feet greater than normal can be the difference between a scare and a serious collision.

Signs Your Brakes Need Servicing

With brakes being such a huge safety factor for you and your family, here are the symptoms you should look for to determine if they need servicing.

  • Squealing Brakes: The brake pads on your car are designed to create a high-pitched sound when they are near their last possible wear point. If you continue to drive after hearing this noise, you will damage more serious components and affect your brakes’ safety.
  • Spongy Pedal: Your brake system is made up of a hydraulic system. If the system develops leaks, you can end up with no fluid pressure or air in the lines. If either of these occurs, you could find the pedal going to the floor without any resistance. This is a dangerous situation to be in, as your safety is in jeopardy. Do not operate your car if this occurs, and have it checked as soon as possible.

Your car is taking longer to stop: This is not the easiest symptom to ascertain. As we drive every day, small changes to the brake system may not be noticeable until it is too late.
